Arshad M. Safi, MD (Chambersburg, PA) -- Keystone Health Center, a public, non-profit health care network in Chambersburg, PA, announces the appointment of Arshad M. Safi, M.D., to the staff of its cardiology practice, Franklin County Heart Center.
In making the announcement, Joanne Cochran, President and CEO of Keystone, said, “The demand for cardiology services has been greater than we anticipated when we first opened the Franklin County Heart Center in January. We’ve had to perform double the number of procedures we’d expected and so we’re very pleased to have Dr. Safi, an experienced cardiologist, become the fourth doctor in our practice.”
In the first six months of this year, 308 cardiac catheterizations have been performed. Of the patients undergoing this diagnostic procedure, 61% were found to have coronary artery disease and required additional non-surgical procedures such as stent insertion. Of those patients, 79% could be treated here in Chambersburg, rather than being referred out of town.
“Before Keystone brought Dr. Aylmer Tang, our first interventional cardiologist, to town,” said Cochran, “Franklin County patients were routinely sent to Harrisburg or Hershey, forcing their families to travel at least an hour to be with them and requiring long trips for follow-up visits. Dr. Safi will be joining Dr. Tang in performing procedures right here in Chambersburg.”
Dr. Safi earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed a residency in internal medicine, fellowships in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease, and a research fellowship in cardiology at the State University of New York Health Center at Brooklyn, NY. Before joining Franklin County Heart Center, he served on the medical staff of The Brooklyn Hospital Center, the University Hospital of Brooklyn, and Saint Vincent’s Hospital Medical Center in New York City. At the same time he served as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Interventional Cardiology at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
Also prior to coming to Chambersburg, Dr. Safi was Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular Lecturer at the State University of New York Health Center at Brooklyn.
Dr. Safi is Board certified in Nuclear Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Angiology, and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Safi now resides in Chambersburg with his wife and six-week old daughter.
He joins Drs. Michael Palmer, Aylmer Tang, and Jan Solli at Franklin County Heart Center in providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art cardiovascular care and testing in the office, as well as cardiac procedures, such as stenting and catheterization, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Franklin County Heart Center is located at 757 Norland Avenue in Suite 207 of the Summit Health Center in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. As with all of Keystone Health Center’s practices, Franklin County Heart Center’s services are available to anyone in the community, regardless of ability to pay.
