COMMUNITY OUTREACH DAY 2003 Free Health Education, Screenings, Prizes and Entertainment for the Entire Family
As host of the second annual Community Outreach Day, Keystone Health Center has organized a variety of businesses, organizations and health-related providers within the community that will participate in offering residents free information and activities that promote good health and safety. Education and wellness activities will include free blood pressure and glucose screenings as well as confidential HIV testing. Throughout the event, a variety of informative health sessions will be conducted on subjects such as obesity, pre-natal care and diabetes prevention. A variety of free services will be offered to parents including finger printing by Baltimore Life and bicycle helmet fittings. The Franklin Fire Company will provide a fire truck for children to explore as well as the department van, which contains a plethora of fire safety awareness activities. A community health fair would not be complete without entertainment and prizes. The children will enjoy craft projects, face painting and games. A friendly clown will be on hand to interact and entertain the kids. "Learning about health and how to live a healthier lifestyle should be fun," Jenny Englerth, Keystone's Director of Operations and Community Outreach Day coordinator, said. "With the new school year right around the corner, we hope to bring together families to participate in fun-filled activities while learning the importance of living healthier, safer lives." Residents that participate in the Community Outreach Day will be eligible for a variety of door prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes range from restaurant gift certificates to a new child's bicycle and bicycle helmet donated by the Chambersburg Wal-Mart. "This event could not be possible without the gracious support of our participants and sponsors," Ms. Englerth explained. "We are thankful to live in a community that cares about the health and well-being of its residents." Community Outreach Day participants include WIC: Women, Infants and Children Program, Boys and Girls Club of Franklin County, Franklin County Literacy Council, Head Start of Franklin County, House of Grace, Curves: Fitness Center for Women, Franklin County Drug & Alcohol, Women in Need, PA Department of Health, and John Wesley Church.
