PSYCHIATRIST, JAMES F. DRUCKENBROD, MD, JOINS KEYSTONE HEALTH CENTER’S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROGRAM

(Chambersburg, PA) -  Keystone Health Center in Chambersburg, PA announces the appointment of James F. Druckenbrod, MD, an area psychiatrist, to Keystone Family Practice.  In his position at Keystone, Dr. Druckenbrod will contribute to the development of the center’s behavioral health services by providing psychiatric consultation for the providers and medical management to appropriate Keystone patients.

In making the announcement, Joanne Cochran, president and CEO of Keystone Health Center, said, "Dr. Druckenbrod brings a wealth of clinical experience to the Keystone Family Practice. Along with his psychiatric experience, his earlier work as a family doctor makes him a perfect fit with our team of professionals at the family practice site.  And more importantly, Dr. Druckenbrod supports Keystone’s mission of ensuring that all residents have access to the health care they need, including mental health care."

A practicing physician for almost 30 years, Dr. Druckenbrod earned his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri, followed by a residency in family practice at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA.  He later completed a residency in psychiatry at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  Dr. Druckenbrod worked in Chambersburg for 12 years as a board certified family physician and for the past 10 years has worked as a board certified psychiatrist.

Since 1995, Keystone has had a licensed clinical social worker on staff who provides mental health counseling to Keystone patients.  Dr. Druckenbrod plans to expand that program by educating the family practitioners and developing protocols they can follow in identifying and treating patients with mental or behavioral health concerns.

“Having been a family doctor and now a psychiatrist, my philosophy is that much of the treatment of mental illness can be done in a family practice setting and it’s often unnecessary to refer a patient for outside psychiatric services,” explains Dr. Druckenbrod.

Dr. Druckenbrod will also work directly with Keystone patients who are referred to him by the family practitioners.  Patients he will treat may be those who suffer from acute mental illness, such as depression, anxiety, or attention deficit disorder, and also those with more chronic concerns, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.

Jenny Englerth, director of behavioral health at Keystone, said, “With Dr. Druckenbrod joining our staff, Keystone more than ever provides truly comprehensive care by integrating mental health services into our family practice.  With statistics showing that 1 in 4 Americans will struggle with some form of mental illness in his or her lifetime, offering mental health services within a family practice setting makes it more likely those patients will be identified and receive the services they need.  And they won’t be subjected to the stigma often involved in going to a strictly mental health facility.”

Keystone Family Practice, located at 820 Fifth Avenue, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, provides family medical care, including behavioral health and social services, to anyone regardless of ability to pay.  The practice is staffed by eight family physicians, one psychiatrist, three nurse practitioners, one licensed clinical social worker, and one registered dietician.

Keystone Health Center, a public, non-profit organization, provides high-quality family medical, obstetric, gynecological, cardiac, behavioral, and dental health care and, when needed, social services to underserved and vulnerable populations as well as the entire community. At present, Keystone Health Center operates six primary care sites—Keystone Family Practice, Keystone Dental Center, Keystone Women's Care, Keystone Health Center-Path Valley satellite family practice, Franklin County Pediatrics, and the State Migrant Farmworker Administration office—and one specialty practice, the Franklin County Heart Center. Keystone also operates one year-round migrant and seasonal farmworker site in Berks County and one seasonal farmworker site in Adams County. Services are also provided through outreach workers and contracted providers across the Commonwealth.
