Keystone Rural Health Center
CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Keystone Health Center is offering a discount prescription drug program to all patients, regardless of income levels, through the federally funded 340B Drug Discount Program. The program enforces the importance of patients having access to not only prescribed drugs, but also comprehensive pharmacy services, at a reasonable price.

"We are excited to be participating in the 340B Drug Discount Program, offering our patients access to not only low-cost drugs, but also comprehensive pharmaceutical services," Joanne Cochran, Keystone Health Center CEO, said. "The nice part is that there are no income restrictions, so all Keystone patients who receive a prescription from a Keystone physician are eligible to participate."

The Bureau of Primary Health Care's Clinical Pharmacy Initiative emphasizes clinical pharmacy services as a necessary part of the delivery of primary health care. Through the Office of Pharmacy Affairs, the Bureau administers the 340B Drug Discount Program under which federally funded health centers like Keystone have access to low-cost pharmaceutical drugs. By contracting with a local pharmacy that will purchase the drugs from a federally approved distributor, Keystone patients will be able to purchase their prescription drugs at a reduced cost.

To provide access to a well-qualified pharmacist, Keystone has contracted with Wayne Myers, Pharm.D., the pharmacist at Norland Avenue Pharmacy, which is also a full-service pharmacy open to the general public. In addition to dispensing discounted prescription drugs to Keystone patients, Dr. Myers will consult with patients on medication instructions, alert patients to possible side effects and will keep a record of medications to prevent drug interactions. Although the Norland Avenue Pharmacy is the only pharmacy participating with Keystone in the 304B Drug Discount Program, Keystone prescriptions can be filled at any drugstore.

Keystone Health Center, a public, non-profit organization, provides high-quality medical, obstetric, gynecological and dental health care and, when needed, social services to all Franklin County residents and the surrounding areas, including the underserved and vulnerable populations. Presently, Keystone operates five primary care sites: Keystone Health Center family practice, Keystone Dental Center, Keystone Women's Care, Keystone Health Center-Path Valley satellite family practice, and the State Migrant Farmworker Administration office.
