CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Keystone Health Center, a public not-for-profit federally funded Community Health Center in Chambersburg, PA, announces that three of its physicians recently received board certification in their area of specialty.

According to the American Board of Medical Specialties, a board certified physician is one who has completed an approved educational training program and an evaluation process, including an examination.  The process is designed to assess the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to provide quality patient care in the physician’s area of specialty.

Earning board certification is a voluntary process of testing and evaluation and is not required to practice medicine.  It is a different and separate process from obtaining a medical license, which is legally required in order to treat patients and is issued by the state in which a doctor practices medicine.   The voluntary pursuit of board certification is intended to help the public identify those physicians who have met a standard of training and experience set beyond the level required for licensure.
