WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES DISCUSSED AT
TEA PARTY SPONSORED BY KEYSTONE HEALTH CENTER
(Chambersburg, PA) - About 50 area women attended a free Tea Party
sponsored by Keystone Health Center and the John Wesley A.M.E. Zion
Health Ministry on Sunday afternoon, February 22. The event—For
Women, About Women—gave women of all ages the opportunity to talk
with health care providers from Keystone Health Center about health
issues related to women.

Following a social period, Sarah Myers, nurse
midwife, Dr. Yvette Brown, obstetrician-gynecologist, both from
Keystone Women’s Care; and Mona Lemanski, Keystone’s registered
dietician, gave brief presentations on health topics of interest to
women and then took questions from the audience. Margie Roach, LPN
at Keystone Family Practice, was on hand to take blood pressure
readings, and Sharon Brocious of the Cumberland Valley Breast Care
Alliance also participated.
The Tea Party, which was held at the John
Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church in Chambersburg, expanded on the health
fair theme by allowing for questions and group discussion. Jenny
Englerth, the director of behavioral health at Keystone, said, “For
this particular event, we primarily targeted African American and
Hispanic women. The Tea Party format helped us get important health
information to these women in a relaxed setting where they were free
to ask questions and learn from not only practitioners but also each
other.”
According to Vanessa McDowell, outreach
coordinator at Keystone and coordinator of the event, “Women feel
very comfortable asking questions in this type of setting because
they’re on a more equal footing with the providers. Being outside
the clinical setting gives women the chance to view health care
providers as people and vice versa.” McDowell said that Keystone
hopes to offer similar events in the future at other area churches.
