NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY IS JUNE 27
(Chambersburg, PA) -- June 27, 2008, is National HIV Testing Day. Keystone Healthcare Network, Chambersburg, PA, extends an open invitation to the community to participate in free, confidential HIV testing. “Keystone’s mission is to provide care to anyone and everyone in the community. This includes individuals who are infected with the HIV virus. Through Keystone’s HIV outreach program we can give individuals a simple way to find out if they are infected with the HIV virus and also provide information on how to prevent becoming infected,” said Joanne Cochran, Keystone’s President and CEO. Keystone will offer free testing using a simple mouth swab, which requires no blood draw, at two locations on Friday, June 27. From 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. free testing will be offered in the lobby of Keystone Family Medicine at 820 Fifth Avenue, Chambersburg. No appointment is necessary, and you do not have to be a Keystone patient. From 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Keystone staff will offer free testing at Rob and Dara’s, a pub and restaurant at 464 Hollywell Avenue. Free refreshments and prizes will be available at this location. Anyone with questions regarding these events may call 217-4242 for more information. In addition to free testing, Keystone provides comprehensive services related to the needs of individuals who may be infected, as well as families affected by HIV/AIDS. According to one HIV-infected patient at Keystone, “The support network that is provided within the Keystone Healthcare Network is a great help in coping and living with this disease. I was diagnosed nine years ago and, although I would not wish it on anyone, the fact is that with all the medical advances and advances in the medications, living with HIV in Franklin County isn’t the death wish most people associate it with.” While June 27 is the nationally designated day to promote HIV awareness and prevention, Keystone offers free HIV testing services throughout the year. Anyone who would like to be tested but is unable to attend one of the June 27 events may call 217-4242 to schedule free testing on another day.
