A psychiatrist is
a medical doctor who is trained to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental,
addictive, and emotional problems.
If necessary, a
treatment plan may include medications to correct imbalances in brain
chemistry that can sometimes cause illnesses such as depression and
anxiety.
In addition to
medications, the treatment plan also may include therapy. In therapy a
mental health professional will help you understand and change the
feelings and behaviors that are causing you problems.
Licensed
therapists are mental health professionals who provide counseling,
guidance, and support. This may include individual, couples, family, or
group counseling.
